Mendeleev made great innovation of tabulation of atoms. However, there were some problem with his periodic table. For example, argon(Z=18, A=39.95) and potassium(Z=19, A=39.10) are they. Argon have more massive atom then potassium, however by classification of characteristics, potassium should be in the group of alkali metal. Likewise, argon is inert gas, therefore it should be in the group of noble gas group. His periodic table was basically following order of mass of atoms. Problem was solved by Henry. G. J. Mosely. In 1913, Mosely measured wavelength of spectrum of diverse atoms. By K-shell x-ray experiment, he found that each atom has their own wavelength. He demonstrated that wavelength of each atom is dependent on their atomic number, and rearranged periodic table in the oder of atomic number. To understand his experiment, we would better look at how x-rays are emitted. There are K shell(the most inner shell in the atom), L shell, M shell, and so on. Electrons in the atom are arranged in closed shells of different energies.
