본문내용
“Art is mans expression of his joy in labour.” Labor is an act which creates something with brain and hand, and this work can be art. Also art is life itself to people who work. Moreover, society could become an aesthetic community if each person has individual aesthetic taste.William Morris, the advocate of the Arts and Crafts movement, demonstrated how to apply aesthetics to everyday objects as well as fine art. “The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life […]” William Morris was an artist. There are various words that can describe him, such as poet, designer, typographer, architect, and socialist. However the word, artist, is the most appropriate word for him. When asked, “What are you?” Morris replied, 3“I am an artist and a literary man, pretty well known, I think, throughout Europe.” Also Morris stands in high esteem in various fields. For instance, Morris is called as ‘The Father of Modern Design’ in both architecture and design. 3“Morris’s ideals were to have a deep impact on succeeding generations of designers, artists and craftsmen.” Morriss artistic viewpoint is closely connected with historical background; in fact Morris was concerned about not only the artistic issues, but also the social issues of his time. His viewpoints also have an effect on today.
