Sigmund Freud, a psychologist, was an extremely habitual smoker. He started to smoke in 1880 when he was a researcher at Bruche`s lab. Before long, he smoked about twenty cigarettes per day, even though he knew the dangers of excessive smoking and the results. However, Freud smoked continuously, even if he knew cigarettes could trigger cancer of the jawbone and he could die due to smoking. We can hear this kind of story easily around us. What is the reason people cannot simply stop smoking? How can companies make people buy unnecessary items daily? From here, I will deal with reasons that people cannot stop buying cigarettes.
Cigarettes help people to get rid of serious stress. We all suffer from small and big stress everyday. Consumers recognize the problems of reality ( i.e. stress ) which is uncomfortable to them. (Problem recognition) Then, consumers search for solutions which can help to remove stress for themselves. (Directed information search)Actually, there are a lot of ways to do it. For example, karaoke, doing exercise, or sleeping etc. However, people who already smoke say there is nothing better than cigarettes for it. Because they can feel like every problem and worry goes away, whenever they see disappearing tobacco fumes. Also, it can help them to forget the bitterness of life; they are looking for cigarettes whenever they desire to escape from reality.
