Few years ago, an interesting event happened in China. A friendly-soccer match between China and Japan was cancelled due to some chinese`s violent actions against Japanese. The Japanese living in china were threatened to be killed if they were seen on the street. Several people really experienced physical violence by angry Chinese. The Japanese government urged the China counterpart to deal with the turmoil immediately, but China`s response was unfriendly. It replied that although the Chinese government would try its best to maintain public security, it would be really impossible to soothe China`s general rage at the Japan`s poor historical consciousness such as the prime minister`s visit to the Yasukuni war shine and the distortion of history textbook. The accident I mentioned above is just one example of conflicts among East Asian countries(China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea). The core reason of most conflicts in East Asia is Japan`s loss of historical consciousness. Due to the Japan`s lack of repentance for it`s cruel history in early 20c, so many conflicts are occurring in this region. Therefore, it is really important to dig into the loss of historical consciousness in Japan and find a solution. On this paper, I am going to present several facts that show the brutalities of Japan during World War Ⅱ and refer to the unwillingness of Japanese to repent the cruel history. I would also like to talk about the consequences of Japan`s loss of historical consciousness and what we have to do as Asian people.
Among inhumane operations Japanese military did before and during World War Ⅱ, the massacre of Nanking is a representative example. On December 12, 1937 when the conflict between China and Japan was becoming severe, Japanese military successfully invaded Nanking and defeated Kukmindang troops. It was the beginning of the extreme cruelty. Out of 500 thousands civilians and 90 thousands soldiers, 300 thousands people were killed. Although the number of casuality itself is really important, how people were slaughtered also needs to be considered carefully. According to the survivals` testimony and photograph evidences, Chinese were buried alive, mutilated and even bit to death by dogs. This horrible experience left a big scar on Chinese and the Chinese history.
