1. 서론
본 실험에서는 Raman spectroscopy를 이용하여 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE)의 두가지 이형태체의 온도에 따른 비율과 에너지 차이를 예측하였다. 그 과정에서 vibrational spectroscopy 중 하나인 Raman spectroscopy의 원리를 이해하고 분석 과정을 알아보았다. 또한 보고된 문헌들과 비교하여 일치하는지 확인하였다.
2. 배경 이론
(1) Raman spectroscopy
빛과 물질 사이의 상호작용을 관찰하면 물질에 대한 여러 정보를 얻을 수 있다. 이를 분광학 (spectroscopy)이라고 하며 변화시키는 에너지 준위, 빛의 종류 등에 따라 다양한 종류가 존재한다. 이번 실험에서는 vibrational mode에 대한 정보를 얻을 수 있는 Raman spectroscopy를 사용하였다.
Vibrational state 간의 간격은 1000cm^(-1) 정도로 IR 영역이다. IR spectroscopy는 이처럼 그 간격만큼의 에너지를 흡수해서 생기는 스펙트럼을 관찰한다. 하지만 Raman spectroscopy는 이러한 빛의 흡수가 아닌 빛의 산란을 측정한다. 산란(scattering)은 물질이 빛과 상호작용하며 가상의 들뜬 상태(virtual state)가 되었다가 돌아오면서 발생한다.
이 때 원래의 에너지 준위로 돌아오면 elastic scattering인 Rayleigh scattering이라고 하고, 파장이 길어지면 Stokes scattering, 파장이 짧아지면 Anti-Stokes scattering이라고 한다.
