‘Gutgeori’ Rhythm Analysis
A Research Paper on one of Korean Traditional Rhythms
The Korean people have a deep traditional musical culture, just like most authentic and renowned tribal societies all over the world. Cultural differences are greatly appreciated in the tourism sector and as a result, music and dance always work best in distinguishing communities from one another by how defined their instruments are, their dance skills and anything that makes them all distinct. A background on the Korean culture shows the various rituals such as the shamanic ritual and a latter comparison with the Janggu instrument. According to an online journal by Muak, the shamanic music gets to interact a lot more with the gutgeori beat. Similarly, a Ms. Young-II Heo presents the ‘Gutgeori’ as a minor repertory or performance among others that make up a much more sophisticated folk dance known as the Seungmu. These two instances give a reference of the rhythm, which serves to show its use in the cultural scope in the Korean traditions.
