First of all, there is a flaw in the question itself. It is that if George Washington and John Adams were to promote national unity within the country, shouldn’t it automatically advance the authority of the federal government? The term Federalist administration is a system of government in which the individual states have their power within their own affairs, but when it comes to a national decisions, the central government has the power(Right) to intervene over it. The term National Unity is to unite all the states into one central powerful government. And the term, advance the authority of the federal government means to increase the powers given to the central government by the constitution or such so in order to control over the states.
“I behold the surest pledges that as on one side no local prejudices or attachments, no separate views or party animosities (Doc A)”.Washington proclaimed this in his first Inaugural Address that there ought to be neither local prejudices nor attachments against other states within the congress in order for itself to see the states with a pure and an equal eye that will not lead them to a fatal misjudgments.”
