본문내용
Wal-Mart is one of the largest retailers all around the world, operating over 11,300 retail units in 27 countries. Of that, around 6,000 stores have been managing in out of U.S, meaning that over 50% of total units are in abroad. This shows Wal-Mart has gotten success for being international business. However, such this international corporate also has failure experience in some countries. One of them is South Korea. Wal-Mart, world-class corporation, opened their stores in South Korea from 1998. However, their business faced with significant problems then they finally failed and withdrew in South Korea, selling all 16 of its South Korean outlets to Shinsegae, a local retailer, for $882 million (New York Times 2006). Interestingly, it is noticed that this enterprise got huge success both in their county and foreign countries. What is the reason why their business had to face with this failure in a small country, South Korea?
