The reason for choosing this theory for final written paper
My major is nursing management. I generally looked for theory which could use in nursing management paper. And I felt there is not many theories which are applicable. Since this is my first semester for doctorate program, I don’t have concrete idea for research. But there is a translation work for patient safety book in my lab, and I felt interested. Patient safety became a big issue in nursing. When I looked at Benner’s theory, novice to expert, I felt that it could be used in training or education for patient safety.

Theorist
Patricia Benner was born in 1934 in Hampton, VA. She worked as a nurse while she was in Pasadena College. She had bachelor degree in Pasadena College in 1964, master degree in UCSF in 1970, and doctorate degree in university of California, Berkley in 1982. Benner started to teach physiology at UCSF (University of California, San Francisco) from 1982. From 2002, she worked as professor in the department of social and behavioral sciences at the UCSF.
