‘Konglish is the use of English words in a Korean context. The words, having initially been taken from English Language… common sentence structure or vocabulary mistakes made by Koreans has also been referred to as Konglish.’ (From the dictionary site Wikipedia accessed 05.03.2010) Nowadays, there would be no people cannot speak a word or a sentence of English in usual life. English is often used in TV or a radio. Even if the word ‘TV’ and ‘radio’ are come from English. Like this, many people speak English even they don’t notice. However, some people don’t know that their English, which doesn’t use in other English countries, is used only in Korea. People call it ‘Konglish’, when they make a mistake in using English because of interference of your mother tongue, Korean. People can never find the world ‘Konglish’ in their English dictionary, because, the word is put together with ‘korean’ and ‘english’ as a coinage of their own. Many people think they recognize between English and Konglish
If Foreigners see the slogan ‘Buy Incheon’, they think the government of South Korea wants to sell Incheon which is the place in Korea. The slogan sounds like ‘buy it’ as like a good. There are new words which are ‘skinship’ and ‘Self Camera’. ‘Skinship’ means hug in English. Korean think ‘skinship’ is ‘skin’ + ‘relationship’. Also, when Korean use English with the Korean expression, it makes sense for Korean. When people vomit because of eating too much or digest problem, Korean say someone is overeat which is pronounced /o-ba-i-t/ in Korea. If Korean ask to a foreigner who is wearing a training suit “Are you wearing a Training /chu-ri-ning/ today?” it sounds strange to the foreigner. Many women say when they shop without buying any goods, they say ‘we are going out for eye shopping.’ This sentence sounds like they want to shop for buying eyes.
