The Beginning < Chapter 1-2 >Donald Woods is a chief editor of Daily Dispatch newspaper. Ken Robertson, one of the journalists on the Daily Dispatch, brings a bundle of photographs that were pictures of the police raid on Crossroads to show Woods. Ken wants him to use them. Then Woods will put one of Ken’s pictures at the top in the center of the front page. Then Woods write editorial on Biko. ‘BANTO STEPHEN BIKO – THE UGLY THREAT OF BLACK RACISM.’ Then Mamphela Ramphele who is Biko’s Friend came to the Wood’s office and tells him that he doesn’t understand what Biko believe in at all. Then she gives Biko’s address to him to meet Biko. Woods is on his way to the address Ramphele had given him to meet him and at last they meet. He meets Biko at his banning area in King Williams Town and after talking about their opinions of black and white in South Africa, a kind of friendship began.

Biko and Woods go to the clinic in Zanempilo, also they are followed two policeman. The Clinic is on a hill. Mamphela is a doctor there. Biko told Woolds Biko and Mamphela builds the clinic for poor black people. Also he told Woods that how poor the blacks live in South Africa. Also the clinic is supported by churches and some blacks companies. After returning home Woods told his wife Wendy about the clinic. Three weeks after, Biko shows Woods the black townships and how people live there. Biko tells Woods about his story. He said German and Swiss priests taught him after Biko’ father died.
