본문내용
1. Introduction
I’m going to talk about sociolinguistic situation and language policy in South Korea and Lithuania from a historical point of view. The two countries are very far and there was no such big exchange. But they have a similar part of history. These two were constantly subjected to the violence of the surrounding imperial nations. Now, both countries are independent. I will compare language-related policies made after independence. First, I will briefly show the historical situation and then move on to language policy.
2. Historical situation
(1) Korea
The official language in Korea is Korean language. Korea uses a unique letter called Hangul which was created by Sejong who is the fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty in 1443. After three years of testing, they were distributed in 1446. It is estimated that about 7.7 million people (2010) use Hangul around the world.
Before Hangul was created, they did not have their own letter. At that time, they borrowed Chinese characters.
