한국어 초록

국어 통사론의 일반적인 관점은 선어말어미와 어말어미가 기능범주를
투사한다는 것이다. 그러나 국어 어미의 분포와 기능을 고려하면 각 어미가
범주 투사의 핵이 되는지는 불분명하다. ‘-시-’의 경우 일치소(Agr) 또는 존
경소(Hon)라고 하나 오히려 형태론적 속성을 강하게 보여 통사적 핵이라고
하기 어렵다. ‘-었-’이 통사적 핵이라는 증거로 흔히 대등접속의 현상을 들
지만 대등접속이 CP-CP의 구조라면 선행절에 ‘-었-’이 비실현되는 것은 분
리가 아니라 생략의 결과이므로 역시 통사적 핵일 수 없다. ‘-느-’의 경우는
현재 시제소라는 주장등이 있으나 그 기능과 분포를 고려하면 공시적으로 분
석하기 어려운 요소로서 역시 통사적 핵일 가능성이 낮다. 종결어미의 경우
‘먹어요’처럼 종결어미 ‘-어’(C) 뒤에 청자경어법의 ‘-요’(H)가 오므로 형태
소 중심의 투사를 하게 되면 CP 위에 HP가 위치하는 문제가 생겨 역시 어미
또는 형태소가 기능범주를 투사한다는 주장을 반증한다. 국어에서 어미의 굴
절형은 어휘부에서 형성되고 그 굴절형에 내포된 각 형식자질(FF)들이 기능
범주를 투사한다고 보아야 한다.

영어 초록

It is general viewpoint that prefinal and final endings project functional
categories in Korean. However, we can know that the argument that endings are
the heads of XPs is not certain, if we considerate the distribution and function of
edndings. The prefinal ending '-si-' is regarded as Agr or Hon, but it looks be
not a syntactic head because of its strong morphological character. '-ess-' is
also regarded as a syntactic head owing to its distribution in coordinate
construction, but it cannot be a syntactic head if the structure of coordinate
construction is CP-CP. '-nu-' being argued as a morpheme of present tense is
also not a syntactic head as it is not possible to be analysed diachronically as a
morpheme because of its irregular distribution and unclear function. In
sentence-final endings, for example, Hon '-yo'(its function is hearer
honorification) is attached to Comp(sentence-final ending) '-e', it would be an
unacceptable structure, which HP places over CP, if endings project XPs. So we
argue that a verb is fully inflected in Lexicon, and the formal features of it
project functional categories.
