본 연구는 교수와 수업을 명확하게 구분하고, 수업이론의 성격, 속성, 조건을 밝힘으로써교육공학의 핵심 용어인 교수, 수업, 교수이론, 수업이론, 교수설계이론, 수업설계이론이 혼용되지 않도록 하고자 한다. 교수와 학습, 수업이론, 수업설계이론은 교육공학에서 핵심에 해당되면서도 명확하게 구분하지 않고 혼용되어왔다. 이러한 혼용으로 교수설계, 수업설계, 교수설계이론, 수업설계이론 등도 혼용되고 있다. 이러한 혼용을 해결하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 이를 위해 구체적인 연구문제로 첫째, 교수와 수업은 어떻게 구분하는가? 둘째, 수업이론으로 불리기 위한 요소, 준거, 성격은 무엇인가? 셋째, 수업이론과 수업설계이론은 어떻게구분하는가?로 설정하였다. 다양한 선행 연구에 대한 논의를 바탕으로 본 연구는 다음과 같이 결론 내렸다. 교육공학에서 핵심이 되는 학습, 교수, 수업은 학문적 발전을 위해서도 명확하게 구분될 필요가 있다. 첫째, 교수(teaching)는 학습을 촉진하기 위한 교수의 활동을 지칭하는 일반적인 용어인 반면, 수업(instruction)은 학습목표, 장소, 시간, 학습자가 특정된 교수활동을 지칭한다. 둘째, 수업이론은 하나의 이론으로 성립하기 위해서는 반드시 갖춰야 할 요소,조건을 갖추고 있으며, 비록 규범적, 처방적인 성격이지만, 이에 대한 연구는 반드시 처방적이 아니라 기술적으로도 이루어질 수 있다. 셋째, 수업이론은 어떤 형태의 수업이 학습을 촉진하는데 효과적인가에 관한 것인 반면, 수업설계이론은 이러한 수업을 어떻게 설계할 수 있는지에 대한 절차와 방법에 관한 것이다. 따라서, 수업설계의 최종 산물은 수업이 아니라 수업에 대한 청사진이다. 이점에서 수업설계는 수업개발의 하위 단계에 해당된다. 이상의 결론을 바탕으로 교수와 수업에 대한 명확한 구분과 더불어 교육공학이 발전하기 위해서는 용어연구위원회의 구성과 현장 기반의 수업이론을 기술적으로 연구할 것을 제안하였다.

영어 초록

The purpose of the study is to clarify conceptually the difference of instruction and teaching in Koreanso that educational technologists would not use interchangeably teaching and instruction, teaching theoryand instructional theory, and instructional design theory. Teaching and instruction, instructional theory,instructional design theory have been mixed up by educational technologists in Korea, though those arethe core concepts of educational technology. The mix of teaching and instruction cause the mixed use ofinstructional design and teaching design, instructional theory and teaching theory, and even instructionaldesign theory. The purpose of the study is to get rid of this mixed use of the terms. The specific studyquestions were 1) what are the differences in teaching and instruction? 2) What are the components,conditions, and characteristics of instructional theory? 3) How can instructional theory and instructionaldesign theory be differentiated? Based on reviewing various existing studies, the followings were concluded.Teaching and instruction, one of the core terms of educational technology, are differentiated: teaching isthe activity being carried by teachers to facilitate learning, instruction is teaching activities to facilitatelearning when time, place, and goals are set. Secondly, an instructional theory can be called when severalcomponents and conditions are met, and also can be studies descriptively, though it is prescriptive. Thirdly,instructional theory is about instruction itself to facilitate learning effectively, on the while instructionaldesign theory is about how to design instruction effectively. Since the results of instructional design is ablueprint of an instruction, not instruction itself, instructional design is a part of instructional development.Finally, it was suggested that instructional theory needs to be studied more and field-based in order toadvance the educational technology field.
