In this paper, the writer attempts to make an inquiry into the relationships between valuation and idea of university. As described in the Jasper’s thought, the three established ideas are scholarly research, academic teaching and social service which are indissolubly linked to each other ; and each of these activities will wither and decline if seperate from others.In addition to the aforementioned ideas, the writer asserts that the valuation is the fourth idea of university which could have an interactional impact on them. Valuation modifies the three ideas of university in a sense that the value is changing along the social progress independently, whereas the others are dependent. Because value is changing relatively to the social situation, the three eternal things of ideas cause a change in valuation that the university could establish the value in situational circumstances.
Valuation makes each university establish the idiosyncratic type of university ; break from the conventional unimodel type which renews the university organization. The writer strongly emphasizes that the valuation could modify the three ideas to different substance of their functions in accordance with the canons of reality. Also, the function of valuation is of imagination that is to creat the divergent thinking. In other words, the task of a university is to weld together imagination and experience so as to acquire the truth.
In addition, the writer attempts to analyse the factors of endurance, reason, adaptation and life itself. These four factors have constantly contribute to the development of the ideas of university, through interactions among them. In this situation, particularly the life itself, as one factor of valuation, has to serve as a key to establishment of the ideas in horizontal life circumstance.
Finally, this paper asserts that the three ideas of Jasper’s work should be claimed as dependent ideas of university because they vary dependently in value. Whereas the fourth idea of valuation should be claimed to be an independent idea of university because the valuation modifies the other three ideas by social progress independently.
