한국어 초록

문식성은 여러 영역에서 사용되고 있는 문식성의 공통 요소를 중심으로 개념을 재정의할 필요가 있다. 문식성은 삶에 필요한 기호 체계를 알아 소통할 수 있는 능력을 말하는 것으로 재개념화할 수 있다.
언어 교육에서 사용하고 있는 문식성은 사고 기능과 언어의 형식을 사용해서 의미를 이해하고 표현할 수 있는 능력으로, 언어 교육의 학습 요소가 된다. 교과의 지식을 학습하기 위해 문식성을 활용할 줄 아는 능력을 교과 문식성이라고 한다. 교과 문식성은 문식성이 다른 교과의 학습에 도구로써 사용되는 것을 분명하게 보여 주어 문식성 교육과 문식성 활용의 차이를 분명하게 설명할 수 있다.
교과 문식성과 긴밀한 관련을 맺고 있는 교과 또는 특정 단원은 국어과의 교육과정이나 교과서와 유기적인 연계를 갖고 교육과정 설계나 교과서 설계를 하는 것이 바람직할 것이다. 또한 국어과는 문식성 교육을 담당하고 타 교과는 문식성을 활용한다는 점을 분명히 인지하여, 국어 교과서에 교과 문식성 전략이 체계적으로 학습 내용으로 포함될 수 있도록 교과서를 제작하여 국어 교과서의 차별성을 확보하여야 할 것이다.

영어 초록

Initially, 'literacy' used to be considered as the term indicating basic ability to read and write. As the world became much complicated and diversified it has wide applications such as computer literacy, digital literacy, scientific literacy, screen literacy, culture literacy, etc. It is inevitable that we should redefine 'literacy' laying stress on the commonality between various literacy than on 'letters'. When we extend the conception of 'literacy' to the term denoting communication ability to recognize symbolism, however, it is often indistinguishable from the same term used with the priority on letters in language education. In this paper, therefore, 'literacy' would be used the term indicating basic ability while 'attainments' implying extended conception.
'literacy' used in language education stands for the ability to understand and express the meaning applying thinking skills as well as language form, which constitutes the components of language education. The scope of literacy education should be clearly restricted to thinking skills and language form since the meaning part of literacy concerns refers to the common knowledge which every other courses could also provide when students read articles and listen to the explanation of instructor. Course literacy means the ability to apply literacy to acquire knowledge. It clearly distinguishes literacy 'education' from literacy 'application' demonstrating that literacy is used as the tool of other courses education.
Considering desirable relations of Korean language course to other courses, well-established literacy education plays critical role facilitating other courses education concentrating on their aims. Hence, it is necessary to develop applicable course literacy strategy as well as to procure and increase korean language education hours before students begin to learn other courses especially in early stage of elementary school. It is desirable to organize the curriculum and textbook of other courses in systematic relation with those of Korean language education when they are closely related to course literacy. It is also critical for Korean language education post to recognize its own duty of literacy education therefore develop Korean language textbook embracing its literacy education strategy efficiently enough to make themselves distinctive.
