본문내용
How do airplanes fly? Probably it is because of the airfoil in an airplane. Airfoil is a basically device that provides reactive force when in motion relative to the surrounding air; can lift or control a plane in flight. We normally call airfoil to wing. For example, if you see birds, most of them can soar freely on the air; however, there are some birds that can not lift themselves up in the air. An ostrich is one of the birds that can not fly and it is because of the ostrich’s wings structure. How the airplane can be lifted to the air easily even though the airplane is so much heavier than the ostrich?
People had been dreamed about flying in the air since the human beings appeared in the Earth. In the early 1700’s People tried to build a machine that flaps like a bird. The machines were designed based on birds’ wings and it seemed like it would work. This mechanic concept is called ornithopter. However, the problem of onithopter is, it only works for bird sized objects not humans. In 1783 the Montgolfier Brothers made the first hot-air balloon and they flew a ballon carrying a sheep, a duck and cockerel to show that possess up in the high altitude of sky is possible to survive. Few weeks after, a science teacher Pilatre de Rozier and an infantry officer Marquis d’Arlandes became the...
